Generosity With MY Time
Are you always busy? If you’re like me then your most frequent reply to a request for your time is “I have so much going on right now, but I’d love to help you anyway.” After I commit to something I almost immediately feel a small bit of dread. Then I get these rapid thoughts: “Do I really think I can make time to do that?” “Why did I agree to do that with everything ELSE I have to do?” “How am I going to fit that in?”
I learned a few years ago that I am not alone. Many of us feel that we simply can’t make time for the things we WANT to do. We want to be generous with our time but that leaves almost nothing left for ourselves. How do you tell someone that you really would love to help, with all the generosity you have, but can’t actually help them? This is a question that I have struggled with almost my entire adult life.
It took a break through idea to show me that my dream of being generous with my time is a possibility. That idea is time banking. With time banking I can be generous with my time and in return someone can be generous with their time by doing something for me that I need. I can cut down on the amount of time I spend doing household chores by having someone from hOur Exchange Ypsilanti do them for me. This frees up my time to do what I love for other members of the time bank.
Reciprocity, Generosity, Compassion, Community, Respect, Nurturing, Friendship
These are but a few things my life is filled with now that I am a member of hOur Exchange Ypsilanti. If this sounds like something you need in your life consider joining your local time bank.
