FIU softball split a pair of games with the Holy Cross Crusaders in a doubleheader on Tuesday, March 7, at the Felsberg Field in the FIU Softball Stadium.

Junior Carmen Perez got things going in the first game, hitting an RBI double to give FIU an early 1-0 lead. The Crusaders responded with a solo homer by Ali Sniegocki to tie up the game in the second inning before taking the lead 2-1 after scoring off a single from Claire McCann.

FIU then went on a scoring frenzy to take the lead for good, with senior Frankie Izard making it home off a wild pitch and freshman Isabella Perez scoring a run in the third to make the score 3-2.

Perez gave the Panthers a nice cushion with a two-RBI double in the fourth as freshman Logan Turner scored the final point off a sacrifice fly in the fifth, 6-2.

Game 1 saw the Panthers match a season-high six steals in a well-rounded effort by all members of the team.

Game 2 was a much different story than the first, as it was a duel between pitchers.

Both teams remained hitless all the way up until the top of the sixth when Crusaders Kari Jacobson hit an infield single. Jacobson was able to score the only point of the game off a Bailey Bates’ sacrifice and Jesscia Mott RBI single.

Neither team would score again and Holy Cross took the second game, 1-0.

FIU was limited to only three hits in the loss. Holy Cross pitcher Megan Yurchick was untouchable, shutting out the Panthers in the 13th complete game of her career.

The Panthers now look ahead to a three-game series against Charlotte, starting on Friday, March 10. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. and the series can be viewed on ESPN+.
