This year, librarians reminded students that they will always “be there” for them with any support they may need.
The Hubert Library hosted a library fair, Nov. 15 from 11 am to 3 pm., at the FIU Biscayne Bay Campus featuring “Friends”-themed giveaways and snacks with different activities offered every hour.
Guided by a trail of “Friends”-themed memes placed on the floor at the back of the Hubert Library.
Chair of the Information and Reference Services Department in the Hubert Library, Gricel Dominguez, was excited to bring the tradition of fairs back, since the pandemic halted them.
“The Hubert Library is back, as part of an effort to connect the FIU community to library resources, services and support available to them through the libraries,” said Dominguez.
Students were informed about the various services at the Hubert Library. Some of these services include device checkouts, research tools, citation managements, digital archives and eTextbooks. FIU’s Libraries has more information on how to access these resources.

The first 20 attendees received a free library “swag bag,” containing a reusable water bottle, pens, “Friends”-themed pins, magnets and stickers.
Students participated in dinosaur scratch art and “Friends”-themed coloring books while watching episodes from the show. Food was also provided and students got to make their own version of Rachel Green’s traditional English trifle.
“Attendees were able to experience activities, giveaways, a scavenger hunt to find Ross’ monkey, Marcel, as well as take pictures at the photo-booth,” Dominguez said. “ They also enjoyed a free massage at Phoebe’s Massage Parlor, which was sponsored by Healthy Living,”

The theme of a 90s TV show throwback isn’t the only book fair BBC has hosted. “Some of the previous fairs we hosted included a “Candy Library” and a “Hogwarts Fair,” said Domniguez.
At the end of the day, students became friends with their librarians, while being introduced to the research resources and technologies that the Hubert Library has to offer.
The positive energy was a pleasant and needed change from the Era of COVID-19! It was wonderful to see all the smiling faces. The space was well utilized and the activities and decorations were superb! Being able to interact with the Quest headset by playing games and creating digital, volumetric art was memorable.
