The FIU Panthers took on the Charlotte 49ers for their final home series of the season, getting swept in all three games.
In game one of the series, it was a pitcher’s duel as both teams were tied at one heading into extras.
In the bottom of the third, the Panthers got on the board first as FIU outfielder Brittany Phillips stole second, allowing outfielder Madison Lewis to score from home.
However, in the top of the seventh, the 49ers tacked on the run to tie up the game, and added two more in the ninth to get the 3-1 win.
FIU pitcher Kendahl Dunford threw all nine innings, allowing eight hits on three earned runs and struck out five batters.
In Saturday’s game, Charlotte wasted no time plating five runs in the first on four hits.
Into the second, FIU came back in the ballgame as infielder Brianna Hill lined to left field, bringing home outfielder Bailey Grossenbacher, and infielder Gaby Ruiz to cut the deficit to three.
Yet, the 49ers offense continued to pour on adding five more runs in the third to extend their lead to eight and won the game by a score of 10-2 by the eight-run rule.
Sunday’s game was a victory for the 49ers as they shutout the Panthers by a score of 4-0, only allowing three hits to FIU.
The Blue & Gold now have an overall score of 18-29, and stand in last place in the C-USA East Division.
Up next: the Panthers will face the UTSA Roadrunners for the final three games of the season. The first game is scheduled for May 6 at 7pm in San Antonio, Texas
