FIU Softball Loses Two of Three Games Against FAU Owls

The Panthers faced the Florida Atlantic University Owls over the weekend, losing two out of the three games scheduled from April 22nd to the 24th. 

The Panther’s record stands at 18-26 overall and 4-14 in conference, ranking them last in the C-USA East Division. 

The Blue and Gold won game one of the series on Friday. Outfielders Brittany Phillips and Madison Lewis brought two runs home, giving FIU the victory with a 2-0 final score. 

Saturday’s game saw a higher scoring matchup, but the Panthers were unable to win back to back and fell to the Owls 7-4. 

Infielder Makayla Gallagher scored the first run in the bottom of the third inning. During the bottom of the fourth inning, outfielder Madison Lewis doubled to right field, collecting two RBIs, Infielder Jianna Simonet and outfielder Brooke McCann scored on the play. Phillips would score an additional run during this inning. 

The Panthers were unable to keep the offense hot and failed to score another run, as the Owls plated seven runs. As the final out was called in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Panthers lost 7-4. 

The Panthers’ struggles continued into Sunday’s game, unable to score any runs and falling 1-0 to the Owls. 

Highlights for the Panthers included first base Kayla Whitehead knocking a single and Lewis snagging a double. 

Up next, the Blue & Gold are scheduled to host a three-game weekend series against the Charlotte 49ers from April 29th to May 1st. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6:00 pm at the FIU softball stadium.
